Fourth Estate – Press Association of Pakistan

Remaining cognisant of the crucial role that media has traditionally played in constructing and shaping political, social, humanitarian narratives and perspectives within our nation, we are proud to introduce our forth committee at this year’s edition of the Youth Leadership Parliament: The Fourth Estate – Press Association of Pakistan. This committee will consist of 10 representatives of print media agencies within Pakistan, each of whom will be assigned the task of drafting articles. Each representative will be alloted one of the three standing committees, and will be expected to document the proceedings of this committee for that day. Delegates belonging to Press Corps can expect their work to be featured in The Parliament, our conference newsletter – which will be printed and distributed at the end of each day.

Additionally, delegates will be expected to engage in verbal debate in one session on topics pertinent to the functioning of media today – including freedom of media, current censorship laws, and media ethics. How much freedom should the media be entrusted with? Does the media exploit that very freedom? To what extent do current censorship laws alter the kind of information available to the public? How much sovereignty should the media really possess?
